Elevated temperature method for recovery of Vibrio cholerae from oysters (Crassostrea gigas).

چکیده
Of 222 Vibrio cholerae isolates from diverse clinical and environmental sources, 219 produced visible growth in alkaline peptone broth when incubated overnight at 42 degrees C. In field trials conducted to compare enrichment at incubation temperatures of 42 and 35 degrees C, significantly higher rates of isolation (P less than 0.05) and recovery (P less than 0.01) of V. cholerae from oysters were observed at 42 degrees C.

Isolation of Vibrio cholerae serotype O1 from the eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica.
Two strains of Vibrio cholerae serotype O1 Inaba were isolated from eastern oysters, Crassostrea virginica, collected from estuarine waters in Florida during April 1980. The oyster meats and waters from which the oysters were collected had low fecal coliform counts, and the area had no prior evidence of sewage contamination.
متن کاملMajor role of the outer-membrane protein OmpU in the Vibrio splendidus/ Crassostrea gigas interaction
Vibrio splendidus LGP32 is an oyster pathogen associated with the summer mortality syndrome that dramatically affects the production of Crassostrea gigas oysters worldwide (Gay et al., 2004; Saulnier et al., 2010). We have recently shown that the outer membrane protein OmpU is required for the virulence of V. splendidus in oysters (Duperthuy et al., 2010). In order to better understand the role...
متن کاملStress and stress-induced neuroendocrine changes increase the susceptibility of juvenile oysters (Crassostrea gigas) to Vibrio splendidus.
Oysters are permanently exposed to various microbes, and their defense system is continuously solicited to prevent accumulation of invading and pathogenic organisms. Therefore, impairment of the animal's defense system usually results in mass mortalities in cultured oyster stocks or increased bacterial loads in food products intended for human consumption. In the present study, experiments were...
متن کاملDetection of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Vibrio cholerae in oyster, Crassostrea rhizophorae, collected from a natural nursery in the Cocó river estuary, Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil.
Oysters are edible organisms that are often ingested partially cooked or even raw, presenting therefore a very high risk to the consumers' health, especially in tropical regions. The presence of Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus in oysters sampled at an estuary in the Brazilian northeastern region was studied, with 300 oysters tested through an 8-months period. The salinity of the wat...
متن کاملDistinct immune responses of juvenile and adult oysters (Crassostrea gigas) to viral and bacterial infections
Since 2008, massive mortality events of Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) have been reported worldwide and these disease events are often associated with Ostreid herpesvirus type 1 (OsHV-1). Epidemiological field studies have also reported oyster age and other pathogens of the Vibrio genus are contributing factors to this syndrome. We undertook a controlled laboratory experiment to simultaneo...
